The Federal Government has opened registration for the 3MTT NextGen Fellowship, a free digital skills programme created to train Nigerian youths in practical technology skills.

The fellowship is open to young people across Nigeria and is part of the government’s plan to support skills development and improve access to technology-based jobs. Registration for the current cohort is ongoing and will close on 31 January 2026.

What the 3MTT NextGen Fellowship Is

The 3MTT NextGen Fellowship is a training programme that focuses on hands-on learning rather than classroom theory. It is supported by the Airtel Africa Foundation and targets youths who want to build usable digital skills.

Participants are guided through structured lessons, practical assignments, and supervised projects. The goal is to help learners gain skills they can apply immediately after the programme.

Digital Skills Covered in the Programme

The fellowship offers training in several areas of technology, including:

  • Software development

  • Data science

  • UI/UX design

  • Cloud computing

  • Cybersecurity

  • Product management

  • Artificial intelligence

Each participant follows a learning track and works on tasks related to that area throughout the programme.

Learning Format and Activities

Training under the 3MTT NextGen Fellowship includes:

  • Online learning sessions

  • Practical assignments and guided projects

  • Mentorship from professionals working in the tech field

  • Group activities and innovation challenges

Participants are expected to complete assigned tasks and take part in scheduled activities to remain active in the programme.

What Participants Will Receive

Those who complete the fellowship successfully will receive:

  • Practical experience from project work

  • Certificates of participation

  • Digital badges that can be shared on professional profiles

  • Access to a national community of trained tech learners

The programme also supports participants with job placement guidance and internship-related opportunities.

Who Can Apply

The fellowship is open to:

  • Nigerian youths interested in digital skills

  • First-time applicants

  • Previous applicants who were not selected in earlier cohorts

  • Community members who could not complete earlier sessions

Applicants are required to complete foundation courses and assessments as part of the selection process.

What Applicants Should Prepare Before Applying

Before applying, interested youths are encouraged to prepare basic tools such as a working email address, a mobile phone or computer, and stable internet access. Applicants should also be ready to dedicate time to learning activities, assignments, and assessments during the programme.

Training Commitment and Expectations

Participants are expected to follow the programme schedule, complete assigned tasks, and take part in group activities. Regular participation is required, as progress is tracked throughout the training period. Those who do not meet participation requirements may be dropped from the programme.

Certification and Use of Skills After Training

After completing the fellowship, participants can use the skills gained to apply for entry-level tech roles, internships, freelance work, or further training. Certificates and digital badges earned can also be added to CVs and professional profiles to show proof of training.

Common Mistakes Applicants Should Avoid

Applicants are advised to avoid using incorrect personal details, inactive email addresses, or incomplete information during registration. Failing to complete foundation courses or skipping assessments may affect chances of selection.

Internet Access and Learning Tools for the 3MTT NextGen Fellowship

The programme is delivered online, so participants will need access to the internet throughout the training period. While a laptop is recommended, some learning activities can also be completed using a smartphone. Applicants are encouraged to plan ahead to avoid interruptions during lessons and assignments.

Time Required Per Week

Participants should expect to spend several hours each week on learning activities. This includes watching lessons, completing assignments, attending virtual sessions, and working on projects. Time requirements may differ depending on the chosen learning track.

Assessment and Progress Tracking

Progress during the 3MTT fellowship is measured through assessments, project submissions, and active participation. These assessments help track learning and ensure that participants are gaining the required skills.

How to Apply

Interested applicants should follow these steps:

  1. Visit the official application portal

  2. Complete the online registration form

  3. Take the required foundation courses

  4. Complete the assessment tasks

Applications are reviewed after all steps are completed, and selected candidates will be invited to join the programme.
