FG to Empower 10,000 Nigerian Women with Electric Tricycles Across 774 LGAs

The Federal Government has announced a new programme to support 10,000 Nigerian women with electric tricycles for commercial use. The initiative is called the Minister’s Green Economy Empowerment 774 (GEE774) and will cover all 774 Local Government Areas in the country.

The programme is being implemented under the leadership of the Honourable Minister, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim.

As part of the rollout, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Esuabana Nko Asanye, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sparrow Mobility Limited, represented by Mr. Adeniyi Ologunleko. Through this partnership, selected women will receive 8-seater electric tricycles and electric tricycles designed for farm-to-market transportation, including support for rice mill operations.

The government said the initiative is designed to promote women’s economic participation while also supporting clean energy use. By introducing electric vehicles, the programme aims to reduce carbon emissions and encourage environmentally friendly transportation.

Speaking about the initiative, Minister Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim said the programme is not only about transportation but about creating income opportunities for women. She explained that the project will help generate green jobs, encourage small business growth, and strengthen women’s role in the economy.

She added that women play an important role in community development and that providing them with tools such as electric tricycles will help them increase their income and improve their livelihoods.

The Minister also noted that the transport sector contributes to carbon emissions, and shifting to electric mobility will help address environmental concerns. According to her, the programme reflects the government’s commitment to supporting women and promoting sustainable development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Federal Government said it remains committed to creating programmes that support women while promoting environmental sustainability and inclusive economic growth.
